I, too am America,
I am the heavier sister, Their words pinch my figure, The thread continues, The expectation expands Upon me, Slimmer waist, Slimmer body, Slimmer hopes of happiness And conformity, The Sun rises again, This time No one will comment about my weight, Telling me to “Hit the gym” Because they forget, The beauty that within, I, too, am America

There are many varied meaning to what being an American is. It could be define as a resident living in the United States. Another definition that someone could define as being American is having pride in America. But for me I believe being American means having your natural rights being acknowledged and protected. Your values, religion and your opinions have the freedom to be expressed. For many people the American life or dream is a life that everyone strives for to become successful in hopes of finding prosperity. I know in many countries, citizens are limited to their rights. Such as the first amendment, which guarantee the right to speak freely with some restraints to protect others. The American dream prides itself on being democratic, that anything is achievable as long you work hard. Things that people could not achieve in other places, are seemingly possible in the United States. Being an American doesn't necessarily have to have one meaning. Being American can also symbolize freedom and equality. The freedom from Britain tyranny over the thirteen colonies. Because that what this country's was built upon the natural's rights and equality. The government form by the people and whom the government serves and protects. The American life is not necessarily a life of luxury, but of hard work. The American life is often undervalued, but can also be overvalued or overrated as well.

In The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry in Chapter 4, there is an astronomer who presents to the Astronomical Congress of his finding of Asteroid B-612. But he is then rejected because of appearance as a Turkish astronomer which can be seen on the left. There is divide in the middle of the astronomer representing order and non-order. There is less color on the right side, because it represent how bland and generic adult's perspectives are. Our creative piece reflects how adults over time lose creativity having harder time to see pass the surface of person, besides their appearance.
Click here for TLP ESSAY Descartes believed we should doubt everything, until proven otherwise by ourselves. Our perception of this image is not an irrefutable truth. It's a doubt because this could be view differently from other. Tradition tells us this image is of a cloud. But it could view as something else such as a whip cream or even a frog.
Our abstraction drawing, represents the universal theme systems. In our abstraction ladder, we branch out from a bracelet to systems. Our bracelet was Faith's bracelet, which is an accessorries. These accessorices create business and money. With business it creates jobs and an industry for people to work in. The industry itself is a system. There are many parts that are comprised the system, the colors and randomness of this drawing contribute to the overall picture. Without these parts the system would not be able to function correctly.
After reading Rene Descartes philosophical writing. I now have a better understanding of its meaning. When Descartes said " I think, therefore I am." He was saying that if he could think, then therefore he was alive. Descartes questioning his own existence, prove that he was alive.
The growth v. fixed mindset has contributed to solving unanswered question about whether certain individuals are prosperous in life or not. Carol Dweck, a psychologist at Stanford University developed a growth v. fixed mindset theory. Dweck answered many of the unanswered questions about the psychology of why people are successful. With her contribution to psychology, she had change the way others think about success. In her study, Dweck theorized, “...that parents' well-intentioned praise contributes to the formation of unproductive fixed-mindset thoughts” (Dweck, p.3). Dweck had related this to employers who came to her stating young people can’t go through a day without a reward or praise. They had refer to these groups of people with the fixed mindset. An unanswered question about the article was which mindset was most likely to jump grades. Apparently, a growth mindset is mostly likely to jump from a low grade to a high grade. “D students often jump an entire letter grade or more after a growth-mindset intervention just by re engaging with their work.”
The growth and fixed mindset are what both contributed to success or failure within an individual. With recent discovery, we’ve learned that these mindset begin to unfold at a young age. It greatly determines with how we cope with success and failure. Dweck concluded in her analysis that this is impacts our outlook and how we deem our personality today. She believed that if your “...qualities are carved in stone -- the fixed mindset-- creates an urgency to prove yourself over and over”(Dweck, p. 4). I believe that fixed-mindset can occur when you fail multiple times and you feel like you just can’t do it.There are many unanswered questions about growth and fixed mindset, and also a ton of things about how we can all relate to fixed mindset at some point. An unanswered question is that if a growth mindset can manifest into fixed mindset. Ultimately, this matters because whether the numbers of students that have fixed mindset, they can always transform into a growth mindset. The queen bee represent a fixed mindset because of it superiority over other bees. While the growth mindset are symbolized by worker bees. Worker bees work diligently to collect honey just like a growth mindset. The beehive represents the origin of the childhood where they developed these mindset. The catacombs of which the bee’s inhabit are like the brain developing and growing. Differences between these two mindset are that the queen bee is fed royal jelly for the rest of her life. While worker bee are only fed royal jelly for the first two days of their life. We compare this to a fixed mindset. Where a queen bee is given royal jelly, while a fixed mindset is being told by other people they are smart. In a growth mindset, they have to work towards being classified as intellectual individual. Like a worker bee, a growth mindset person work to reach their goal. The stars and green glitter represent the achievements of a growth mindset and the question mark represent the unanswered questions icon. |
